About Rhonda Holleman

I have always needed a creative outlet and been involved in the arts, in one genre or another.  Dance, Music, Poetry, Theatre, … and of course Photography.  But for a while, my artistic pursuits were put on hold because of an injury and subsequent medical challenges and physical limitations.  I have Fibromyalgia, Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (aka Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy), Peripheral Neuropathy and a variety of other health issues.  But after a lot of procedures and meds and sheer stubbornness I was able to improve.  I’m not back to “normal” (whatever that is), but rediscovering the visual arts has given me a way to express myself, on my own terms and within my limitations.

Several years ago, after moving to Fredericksburg (in the beautiful Texas Hill Country) I rediscovered my interest in photography, sort of by accident.  I started helping my aunt and then friends take photos of their businesses and products for use in advertising and social media and discovered I had a knack for it.  Before I knew it I was doing photos for a few businesses and a local magazine.  With encouragement from them and my friends and family, I started doing more and more and expanded into tourism and fine art photography.  (I always enjoyed taking photos and took a couple photography classes in college, but that was in the dark room days.  And trying to continue at that point was costly and difficult if you weren’t actively pursuing it as a full-time career.  But digital has changed all of that.)

I am a very instinctual rather than technical photographer.  I don’t use the fanciest camera gear or software.  I try to get the best images, using the least manipulation and editing possible.  I want images to be the best representation of how the subjects appear in nature.  And other than the occasional animal or flowing water, I tend to photograph only still life subjects.

For some reason I am often drawn to photographing nature – including landscapes and flowers, even though I know absolutely nothing about gardening, can't identify most of the flora I photograph, and am allergic to much of it.  But I like the way they look.  I particularly love bright colors on a sunny day.  It makes me smile.  (But I do like to experiment with some more artistic and moody shots from time to time.  And I’m currently obsessed with exploring perspective , and trying my hand at a variety of arts and crafts.)

My husband Scott (who is a full-time professional photographer – Bayou City Photography) and I have photographs displayed at the Art Center in Baytown, Texas (As well as some of my other art and crafts). And for a few years we have been participating in a variety of art shows and competitions in the greater Houston area, as well as arts and crafts markets and other events.

In addition to my fine art photography, I want to continue to help local, small business owners obtain quality photos to promote their businesses at reasonable prices.

Please take a look through my photos and feel free to contact me if you would like to purchase prints of any of the fine art photos, or if you would like to talk about having some photos done for your business.

(PLEASE NOTE:  I take photos primarily of places, objects, products and the occasional animal, but very few of people.  However, my husband is a portrait and event photographer.  So if you would like senior, family or business portraits, wedding photos, or photos at your reunion, banquet, ground breaking, or other event - please visit my husband's website at www.BayouCityPhotography.com)

THANK YOU!
